Armed Forces day pays tribute to the men and women currently serving the U.S. armed forces. It began in 1949, but was first observed on May 20, 1950.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's victory, on May 5, 1862, over France at the battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867).
