Dear FB Friends and Family, I need your help. This is a final push for support as the legislature will be going into conference about the budget late next week. Thank you for your willingness to help. I'm writing to you to ask for your support and letter writing to our state legislators. I would also ask that you share this with other groups as I could really use any and all support. As it stands now, we are not in any state budget for the phase 2 project but we have tremendous support from our Legislators. They have asked for additional letters to be sent to them from our community, government organizations, labor unions and community service clubs as well as individuals. This critical project is shovel-ready and represents a vital investment in our community, workforce development, and education system. Phase 1 construction of WSTSC modernization is on track to be completed by mid-August 2025, and Phase 2 is set to begin in June 2025. However, the success of Phase 2 hinges on securing the necessary funding in the state budget. A failure to fund this phase will have devastating consequences for the project and the community it serves, resulting in increased costs and delays that could jeopardize the entire modernization effort. If Phase 2 funding is not included in the state budget, the project will face significant obstacles, including: Costly Re-permitting: Delays will necessitate re-permitting, which will substantially increase the overall cost of the project and strain already limited resources. Disruption to Educational Services: Interruptions to construction will negatively impact the operations of WSTSC, limiting its ability to provide high-quality technical education to students as well as expansion of programs. Currently we can only take 600 students but we had 800 students apply. There isn’t capacity to support 800 students without the improvements to the building. Loss of Momentum: The seamless transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 is crucial to maintaining project momentum and ensuring timely completion. Any funding delay will create significant obstacles, putting both phases at risk. The result of which would impact the school negatively for years to come. No New Programs: Without Phase 2, WST will not be able to bring on five new new planned program, which include, Maritime, Early Childhood Education, Dental Assisting, HVAC and Diesel Mechanics. It will also significantly limit the expansion of the welding program and construction trades. West Sound Technical Skills Center is a cornerstone of the entire Olympic Peninsula, equipping students with the technical skills necessary to thrive in high-demand industries. Its modernization is a forward-thinking investment in the future of our workforce and economy. By funding Phase 2 construction, the state ensures that this vital resource continues to meet the needs of students and employers in our region. I strongly encourage you to prioritize the inclusion of Phase 2 funding for West Sound Tech in the state budget. This modernization will allow West Sound Tech to meet the needs of the community it serves. As it stands now, there are 800 applications for 600 spots. Funding this project will ensure that all students from the 9 sending school districts will have the opportunity to enroll in the programs at West Sound Tech. WST Medical Careers student Xander scored a perfect 350 point on his medical terminology test today. Instructor Young said not only is it rare to score a perfect 350 points, he did it in 30 minutes.
